WINE ESTATE
• Winemaking at this 50 hectare (125 acres) estate dates back to the feudal era in 1153. The Richard family devotes its property entirely to making estate-bottled Brouilly cru.
SOIL
• Arid soil of granite and sand;
• 45 year-old vines with southern exposure, at an altitude of 328 meters (1,074 feet)
GRAPE VARIETY
• 100% Gamay
VINIFICATION
• Manual harvesting; yield of 55 hl per hectare;
• Partial carbonic maceration, fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats;
• Manual punching down of the cap (pigeage) gives more structure to the wine for ageing.
AWARDS
• Le Guide Hachette 2003:
• La Revue du Vin de France (May 2004): “Good body, fleshy fruit and velvety: a charming Brouilly.”
• Concours National des Vins de France: One of the most awarded wines, winning more than 20 Gold medals.
FOOD PAIRING
• It is a classic for your picnic, lunches and summer dinners.
TASTING NOTES
• The Brouilly of Chateau des Tours has an intense purple, mauve color with a bouquet of violets and raspberries. On the palate it is lively, rich and well balanced and tender with immediate appeal. Out of the 10 Crus of Beaujolais, Brouilly is the largest and the most distinctive.
