CHATEAU MALAIRE - MEDOC

WINE ESTATE
• Formidable changes have been made to the estate in the last three decades: Complete restructuring of the vineyard by the Rothschild family in the early 70’s, and high-tech improvements to vine growing and winemaking by the current owner Domaine CGR in 1990. Château Malaire wines are produced on the highest plateau of the Medoc. The land already planted with vines as early as the 17th century, slopes gently down to the River. The vineyards, planted with 7,500 vines per hectare, encompass the villages of Blaignan, Odonnac and Prignac.

SOIL
• sandy gravelly soil, sloping down to the river.

GRAPE VARIETY
• 50% Merlot
• 50% Cabernet Sauvignon

VINIFICATION
• hand-harvested
• Stainless steel fermented in temperature-controlled vats
• Three weeks maceration.
• Traditional aging in oak barrels for 12 months, before estate bottling.

FOOD PAIRING
• This wine is perfect for beef, lamb, game meats but also ham and pork (for a highly savory and spicy dish).
• As a rule, red wines go well with mild to sharp cheese.

TASTING NOTES
• With its purplish red to garnet color, this Médoc offers a delightful nose of red fruits. The fruit is joined by more mineral notes, combined with gunflint and just a hint of iodine. The supple, fresh palate is one of fruit and spice.
