WINE ESTATE
• Lilian Ladouys is located at a stone throw from the renowned estates of Cos D'Estournel and Lafite-Rothschild. In the 18th century, the Barre family bought the estate and continued to run it for over 150 years. They gave the Château its identity and character and in 1850 the first edition of Ferret ranked Lilian Ladouys as one of the best wines in Saint-Estephe.
SOIL
• 90 plots extending over 48 hectares of vines, average age of 30 years. An incredible mosaic that encompasses all the soils, or nearly all of the Saint-Estèphe appellation (67% gravels, 33% limestone-clay)
GRAPE VARIETY
• 58% Cabernet Sauvignon
• 37% Merlot
• 5% Cabernet Franc
VINIFICATION
• The grapes are selected from specific plots depending on the age of the vines and the grape variety. Once harvested, the fruit is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, before the traditional ageing in wooden casks of fine-grained oak from mature timber grown in the centre of France.
AWARDS
Vintage 2005:
• Wine Spectator: 91 Points
• Decanter:
FOOD PAIRING
• Enjoy this wine with a beef filet, fully-flavoured meat or game (rabbit). It also goes very well with strong cheese.
TASTING NOTES
• A nose of cigars, freshly rolled tobacco leaves singed fruit and a little tomato leaf. A soft style on the palate, with more of that tobacco character to the fruit as was found on the nose. A well balanced acidity and a grip which carries through to the finish.
